Although Summer truly ends September 22, Labor Day traditionally signals the end of Summer for fashion.
Unless you live in the tropics, it’s our last chance for a picnic, a barbeque, a trip to the beach, the dip in the pool. A last chance for those gorgeous loud tropical prints, crisp and airy whites, sandals and halter tops… or is it?
Wearing white after Labor Day used to be fashion no-no. Rejoice GORGEOUS ones the rules have changed!
The ‘no white after labor day” is restricted to shoes, more specifically to pumps!!!! It does not refer white clothes! But beware: white combined with brights colors such as hot pink, turquoise, yellow or soft pastels is only allowed for the tropics, if you are of a cruise or if you are attending a themed event.
So how can we wear white the right way? A beautiful blouse or sweater can be elegantly paired with a more subdued color such as chocolate, navy, grey, olive green, brick red or, dare I say it?.. camel.
White coats, trench-coats and trousers, albeit lovely, are notorious dirt and stain magnets. So if you chose to , please be careful where to sit, stand, and what you touch. Otherwise you’ll be wearing a year-round fashion no-no: dirty clothes!
The Sweater and Trench are available at a steal price ( under $100 for BOTH) from Spiegel
